Shane Watson Lauds the Captaincy of Shreyas Iyer: Former Aussies player Shane Watson showers praise over Kolkata Knight Riders captain Shreyas Iyer. Watson was talking on Star Sports after KKR’s incredible win over SRH. Iyer scored an unbeaten 58 runs to play a crucial role in the win.
To thrive under pressure is impressive. And that makes Iyer’s innings more luminant, according to Watson.
“Yeah, he played a crucial innings as well. He’s batted nicely through this IPL. But to be able to put on a dominant display like he did at 58 is a very impressive time as well,” Watson said.
“You’re not suffocating players around you by putting too much pressure on you, just allowing people to have that freedom to play their very best. And tonight they were all very, very good”

Watson said Iyer is successful in bringing the best out of his players and not just performing himself on the pitch.
“To be able to really know that you’re hitting the ball incredibly well. But him as a leader, he’s had a lot of success, which means that he’s getting the best of the people around him. It’s not just him doing his thing and he’s performing well,” Watson added.
“The team around him, the players around him are doing very well, which is a which is a telltale sign that you as a leader are doing a very good job,” Watson said.
Easygoing with the players rather than suffocating them might be the best thing Iyer has done in his leadership.
“You’re not suffocating players around you by putting too much pressure on you, just allowing people to have that freedom to play their very best. And tonight they were all very, very good,” Watson concluded.
With the win, KKR became the first team of the season to reach the final. They will wait for the winners of Qualifier 2. The final will be held in Chepauk on May 26.
