Shakira Opens Up About Painful Pique Split: Pop star Shakira has opened up about her breakup with footballer and 2010 World Cup winner Gerard Pique. The couple split in 2022 after an 11-year relationship.
The Shakira-Pique relationship was one of the most adored ones in the celebrity world. Despite being never married, Shakira used to name Pique her husband. The couple has given birth to two sons, namely Milan and Sasha.
After their split, Shakira had made a dig towards Pique in one of her songs, and the player had responded back by saying that the truth is beyond that. There was no news about the parted couple for a while, but now the singer has recently given an interview with GQ Spain and candidly talked about the unfortunate split.
“I Have Lost Trust”: Shakira Opens Up About Painful Pique Split
Shakira talked about the painful heartbreak and her friends being around in her hardest times.
“I’ve realised that friendship is longer than love. I didn’t know that. Life took a husband from me but gave me so many friends. I never felt as loved, as held, as I did by my friends. I must have done something right in life to have so many people that love me. These friendships have been there for 20 years or even some new ones that are bulletproof. These are life’s rewards. When there’s so much pain, God squeezes but he lets you breathe.”
Shakira also talked about the importance that music played in her grief after the breakup.
“For many months after my separation I had been silent, trying to begin my mourning, but I couldn’t really begin to grieve until I started writing music. It was my way of healing. And it continues to be. Grief is a process that is not linear. It is full of peaks and valleys.”
Shakira also admitted that she lost trust in the love of a partner and hasn’t recovered completely yet.
“It’s not the same. The love of a partner disappointed me. It affected my idiosyncrasy. It’s inevitable, at least for the moment, that I have lost trust in the other. The healing process is long. It will take me several albums!”
