Shakib Al Hasan Faces Murder Charge: Bangladesh cricket all-rounder is facing a murder charge being filed against him, along with the country’s former Prime Minister Shiekh Hasina and other prominent political figures.
Most people know of the political turmoil going on in Bangladesh, which prompted massive protests all over the country. The case has been filed by Rafiqul Islam, whose son was shot during the protests a month ago, in what is being accused of a planned conspiracy.
In a recent report by the Dhaka Tribune, Rafiqul’s son, Rubel Islam, was part of a rally on the ring road of the city in Abadar, which is the nation’s capital of Dhaka. During the proceedings, shots were fired, a few of which hit Rubel fatally through the chest and abdomen. All this has been confirmed by Abadar Police Station Inspector Md Nazrul Islam.

There are claims that the attack on the protestors was part of a conspiracy. With that being the case, the father of the deceased, that being Rafiqul Islam, filed a report against those against whom the protests were held, those being members of the previous government led by Sheikh Hasina.
Someone who was also a member of parliament from the ruling Awami League is Shakib Al Hasan, who contested the elections earlier this year from his home constituency of Magura-1 and won.
Shakib is the 28th name as part of the charge filed. The 37-year-old is currently playing for the Bangladesh Cricket Team in the first of two Test matches against Pakistan in Rawalpindi.
Before the match started, team captain Najmul Hossain Shanto claimed that Al Hasan’s complete focus during the series would be on cricket, despite how bad things go back home.
“I don’t think it will affect him because he’s a professional cricketer, and we all treat him as such. He has played this game for so long that he knows his role and how to prepare himself. I am not thinking about his political career, and I hope he will do something special in this series,” said Shanto in the pre-match press conference.
Bangladesh won the toss and decided to bat first, which proved to be the wrong decision as Pakistan scored 448/6 across the first four sessions or so before declaring. Now on Day 3, Bangladesh is 147/3 as the game seems to head towards a draw. Shakib Al Hasan dismissed Salman Ali Agha in the first inning.
