Shahid Afridi Appointed As T20 WC Ambassador: Pakistan’s legendary cricketer Shahid Afridi joins the list of ambassadors for the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup. He will now spread the ultimate T20 tournament across the world along with Indian Yuvraj Singh, West Indies big-hitter Chris Gayle, and World 100m record holder Usain Boult.

Following the appointment, Afridi talked to the ICC about how special the T20 World Cup is for him. He was the player of the tournament in the inaugural session of the T20 World Cup, in which his team lost to their greatest rivals, India, in 2007. But in the power of Afridi’s Man of the Match performances in both the semifinal and final, Pakistan lifted the trophy in the very next edition, which was in 2009. Afridi remembers how epic it was.
“The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup is an event that is very close to my heart,” said Afridi. “From being Player of the Tournament in the inaugural edition to lifting the trophy in 2009, some of my favorite career highlights have come from competing on this stage.
“I am particularly excited to witness the India v Pakistan fixture on June 9. It is one of the great rivalries in sport .”

“T20 World Cups have gone from strength to strength in recent years, and I’m thrilled to be part of this edition, where we will see more teams, more matches, and even more drama than ever before.
Like every cricket fan, Shahid is also keen to watch the India vs Pakistan match in the tournament, which will be held in New York on June 9.
“I am particularly excited to witness the India v Pakistan fixture on June 9. It is one of the great rivalries in sport and New York will be a fitting stage for this unmissable encounter between two great teams,” Afridi added.
