Shaheen Afridi Dropped For 2nd Test Vs Bangladesh: Pakistan ace-pacer Shaheen Afridi has been dropped from the squad for the second Test match against the Bangladesh Cricket Team after the humiliating defeat in the first game.
Shaheen had left the squad after the first Test for the birth of his son, but he had joined up with the squad earlier today; now, he is not part of the 12-man shortlist, out of which 11 players will be chosen to play the match.
The Pakistan Cricket Team lost the first Test to the Bangla Tigers by 10 wickets; this was their first loss to them in Test cricket, that too at home. The match being played in Rawalpindi saw Bangladesh win the toss and choose to bowl first. The Men in Green then scored 448/6 in the first inning before declaring, with Saud Shakeel and Mohammad Rizwan scoring massive 100s.
In response, Bangladesh scored 565 runs as wicketkeeper Mushfiqur Raheem scored 191 runs. On the fifth day, the wicket had considerably slowed down, resulting in Pakistan getting all out for 146, leaving the guests with a target of 30 in the final inning, which they made in just over six overs without losing any wickets.
In the second inning of the match, Pakistan gave up over 550 runs. The pace quartet of Afridi, Naseem Shah, Khurram Shahzad, and Mohamad Ali failed to stop the flow of runs and take constant wickets. Shaheen himself gave 88 runs and took only two wickets in 30 overs.
Shaheen Afridi Dropped For 2nd Test Vs Bangladesh
Ahead of the second Test, some changes have been made to the Pakistan side. Apart from dropping Afridi, leg-spinner Abrar Ahmed has been brought into the side and has also made it to the final 12. Ahmad has played six Tests for the national team so far, taking a staggering 38 wickets.
This is not the first time Shaheen Afridi has been dropped from the last Test of the series this year. In the three-match Australia vs Pakistan series 2023-24, he was dropped from the Pakistan Playing XI for the last Test in Sydney as the Asian giants lost the series 3-0.
Now unable to win a Test series against Bangladesh for the first time, this is Pakistan’s 12-man shortlist for the second and final Test of the series:
Shan Masood (C), Saud Shakeel (VC), Abrar Ahmed, Mohammad Ali, Salman Ali Agha, Saim Ayub, Babar Azam, Mir Hamza, Mohammad Rizwan (WK), Abdullah Shafique, Naseem Shah, and Khurram Shehzad.
The second Pakistan vs Bangladesh Test match will be played in the Rawalpindi Cricket Ground and will start tomorrow, Friday, August 30.
