Shafali Verma Scores Fastest 200 In Women Test: Indian woman cricketer Shafali Verma has broken the record for the fastest double-century in women’s test match history, breaking the previous record by more than 50 balls.
India is taking on the South African women’s team in a one-off Test match at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The four-day Test started today with India winning the toss and deciding to bat first.
On a flat batting track, the Indian batting annihilated the South African bowling unit. Harmanpreet Kaur’s women are still batting at the stumps on Day 1. The day finished with India having scored 525 runs and losing just four wickets.
It was a fantastic day for Indian batters. While Jemimah Rodrigues scored a fine 50, star opener Smriti Mandhana scored 149 off 161.

But the day belonged to Shafali Verma, who is one of the most explosive openers in women’s cricket and is compared to the likes of Virender Sehwag. Shafali scored 205 off 197 before she was ran out.
The manner in which Shafali reached her 200 was incredible. In the 73rd over of the day, the 20-year-old started the over with two consecutive sixes to spinner Delmi Tucker. On the third delivery, she took a single to reach the milestone.

Verma completed her 200 in just 194 balls, which, apart from being only the ninth double-ton in women’s Test cricket, is also the fastest by a mile.
Before today’s inning, the record for the fastest 200 in women’s Tests belonged to Australia’s Annabel Sutherland, who scored her double-century in 248 deliveries. Sutherland scored her first and only 200 in Test cricket against South Africa earlier this year, in February.
This is also just the second 200 scored by an Indian in women’s Tests. The first was scored by the Indian legend Mithali Raj, who scored 214 in 407 balls in a Test match against England in Taunton in August 2002.
The Indian women’s team is on fire right now. Before this Test match, they defeated South Africa 3-0 in an ODI series, which came after a 5-0 T20I series win against Bangladesh.
