Selector Hopes England Return For Jonny Bairstow: Bairstow will make his way back into the national team with good performances in all formats.
Bairstow has been an all-format regular part of the England team for over a decade now. Typically known for his ability as a destructive batter, the 34-year-old is quite versatile for finding success in all three formats of international cricket.
However, he has not been named in either the ODI or the T20I squad for the upcoming home series against Australia. He is not the only senior player left out for the tour, as the likes of Moeen Ali and Chris Jordan have been left out as well.
Bairstow did make his intentions to play for England across all formats clear in an interview during the recently concluded Hundred 2024. But he will now find it difficult to make it into the national team in white or red ball cricket.

In the limited overs, the likes of Will Jacks and Phil Salt have shown their ability to bat the way England likes, quick and for long. The two have not only had solid series and tournament performances for the Three Lions but were also standout performers in the IPL earlier this year. And while Jacks is a more equal replacement for Jonny in terms of batting, Salt is also a solid wicketkeeper.
Whereas in Tests, Jamie Smith has emerged as a fine wicketkeeper-batter. While his red ball career for England is still young, he recently scored his first ton in the format and was the Player of the Match for the first Test against Sri Lanka.
For these reasons, the English selection committee has kept Jonny Bairstow out of the team in ODIs and T20Is after not picking him for the Test side.

But Luke Wright, who is a selector for the England Cricket Team, made a statement about the veteran keeper while announcing the squad for the series against Australia, of which Bairstow is not a part. During the announcement, Write said that he hopes to see Jonny make his way back into the national team.
“We just want him back to [being] one of the best players in the world. He understands that. He doesn’t like it. One thing Jonny will do is fight back, and I hope he does and gets himself back in the team. I’m certainly not going to write Jonny off. Jonny’s countless times when people have shown them that they’re wrong, and hopefully he shows that we’re wrong as well.”
To make his way back into the national team, Jonny Bairstow has turned to County Cricket. Playing for Yorkshire, he recently played in the recent victory against Sussex, scoring a 50 in the first inning.
