Sarfaraz Khan Convince Rohit To Take Brilliant DRS: Sarfaraz Khan and Virat Kohli convinced Indian Cricket Team captain Rohit Sharma to take a DRS call regarding the dismissal of New Zealand batter Will Young on Day One of the 2nd Test match between the two nations.
Today is the first day of the second India vs New Zealand Test match. On what looks like a spin haven in Pune’s MCA Stadium, the Kiwis won the toss and decided to bat first.
In what was an otherwise frustrating session for India, Ravichandran Ashwin dismissed captain Tom Latham quite early. But then Will Young and Devon Conway formed a solid partnership. From Latham’s wickets in the eighth over, the two took the BlackCaps from 32 runs to 76 runs in about 24 overs.
On the last ball of the 24th over of the inning being bowled by Ashwin, the veteran spinner bowled down the leg side. It seemed that the ball went past Young and went straight into wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant’s gloves. Neither the bowler nor the keeper were aware that anything had happened.

But someone who was interested was Sarfaraz Khan, who was standing at forward short leg. The young batter immediately appealed and approached captain Rohit Sharma, who was standing in the slips. The umpire, who was equally uninterested in any appeal like keeper Pant, did not raise his finger for this appeal.
But with the timer for DRS ticking down, Khan all but forced Sharma to take a review, claiming that the ball had clipped the bat while traveling down the batter’s leg side. What helped was Virat Kohli, who was standing somewhere around the mid-wicket region, came in and convinced the skipper to take the review too, who did so with around five seconds remaining.
As the third umpire reviewed the clip to review the appeal, UltraEdge showed the tiniest of spikes while going past the batter’s gloves, which proved that with the thinnest of edges, Will Young was out.
This was an excellent DRS call by Sarfaraz Khan, who was probably in the best position to see the edge, even better than Rishabh Pant. As for Virat Kohli, he did well in believing in his team’s young star and backing him in convincing captain Rohit Sharma to take the review.
With that wicket, New Zealand were 76/2 in 24 overs. But as said earlier, it was a frustrating session for India. In the 31 overs bowled in the first session of the day, New Zealand lost only two wickets and scored 92 runs with Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra on strike.
