Samson has scored 227 runs from 7 matches he played with an impressive strike rate of 143.57 and an average of 37.33. He played the first three matches as an impact player, as he was yet to get clearance from the BCCI’s center of excellence to wear the wicketkeeping gloves. At that time, it was Ryan Parag who led the team, and RR lost 2 of the first 3 matches. Parag’s choices as a captain was widely criticized.
Samson came as the captain in the 4th match and started with a win, but it seemed like the franchise have never recovered from the blows in the initial games.
In the first 7 games, RR could only win twice, and their only consistent performer with the bat, Samson, got injured and went out in the DC match. This was a huge blow for the team as their batters have failed to perform this season, including Ryan Parag.
After playing 10 games, RR is still with 2 wins and without their performing captain. They are second to last on the IPL 2025 points table, only above MS Dhoni’s CSK in the privilege of net run rate. They are already out of the tournament.
Samson’s comeback to the nets at least will spread a positive news in the RR camp as they will try to win the upcumoniig matches for keeping their heads up.
