Sanju Samson Reacts To RR Releasing Jos Buttler: Parting ways with Jos Buttler was “one of the most challenging decisions” that Sanju Samson and Rajasthan Royals (RR) had to make, says the RR captain ahead of the IPL 2025 season, and that he is “still not over” the fact that his association with the Englishman at the Royals is halted now.
Buttler, one of the most dangerous T20 openers in the world, was released by RR before the IPL 2025 mega auction. For the mega auction, RR retained six players—the most the franchises were allowed—but Buttler wasn’t one of them.
Buttler played for Rajasthan from 2018 to 2024 and was their top run-scorer in this period, hammering 3055 runs at an average of 41 and a strike rate of 147, whacking seven centuries and 18 fifties.

Samson told JioHotstar,
“Letting him go has been one of the most challenging decisions for me. During the England series, I told him over dinner that I was still not over it. If I could change one thing in the IPL, I would change the rule of releasing players every three years. While it has its positives, on a personal level, you lose that connect, that relation you built over years. He was a part of the family. What more can I say?”
In the mega auction, Buttler was purchased by Gujarat Titans for INR 15.75 crore.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi looks ready: Sanju Samson
One of the most exciting recruits of the mega-auction was 13-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi, whom RR bought for 1.1 crore. Samson talked of the youngest IPL player ever and reckons he “looks ready” for the tournament.
“He looks very confident. He was sitting sixes out of the ground in the academy. So what else can I do? I think it’s all about understanding his strength, backing it, and being around as an elder brother.
“He looks ready. I think it’s all about keeping him in the best shape and in a relaxed environment, which RR is known for, and then back him. You never know, in a couple of years he might end up playing for India as well. I feel that he is ready to play the IPL and ready to give a few punches here and there,” the RR captain added.
