Sanju Samson Favourite For T20Is Over Ishan Kishan: Wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson is being considered a favourite to be picked for the Indian Cricket Team squad for the upcoming T20Is against Bangladesh over Ishan Kishan.
Both these wicketkeepers are among the highest-rated players behind the stumps in India. And while Rishabh Pant is set to be the No.1 wicketkeeper for the national team across all formats, Sanju and Ishan are will be competing to be the next in line.
Samson and Kishan have been showcasing their talents in the red-ball tournament Duleep Trophy recently like every national team prospect in the country. The competition, which has four teams – India A, India B, India C, and India D; is being looked upon as the proving ground for players who are looking to get into Team India.
Sanju Samson Favourite For T20Is Over Ishan Kishan
Among the wicketkeepers in the tournament, Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan are the closest to being selected for the national team. So the better performing one among them would likely get selected.
It has been Sanju Samson who has impressed more in the two matches he has played so far in the Duleep Trophy. Playing for India D, he has scored 196 runs in four innings, which includes a fine ton against India B and two scores at and above forty.
Meanwhile, Kishan has scored just 134 runs in two matches as well. While he too scored a century against India B, he scored just 23 runs combined in his other three innings.
Despite his fine performances recently, selectors might have Sanju’s poor performances in the national team outfit in mind. In the T20I series against Sri Lanka last month, the Rajasthan Royals captain scored back-to-back ducks.
On the other hand, Ishan has followed BCCI’s directive to play more domestic cricket. Before being excluded from the squad about a year back, he was a limited-overs regular for India, even being picked for the 2023 World Cup team.
Another factor that might play a factor in the decision is the Irani Trophy, which will see Ranji champions Mumbai play the Rest of India’s team, of which Ishan Kishan is a part and Sanju Samson is not. The five-day match will finish on October 5, one day before the first T20I against the Bangla Tigers. This might result in Kishan not being a part of the team for the first T20 due to fixture congestion.
In other news for the team, some of the national team regulars are expected to be out for the T20I series. These names include Shubman Gill, Axar Patel, Mohammed Siraj, and Rishabh Pant.
The first India vs Bangladesh T20I will be played on October 6 in the Shrimant Madhavrao Scindia Cricket Stadium in Gwalior. The second and third matches will be played on October 9 and 12, respectively, in Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium and Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium.
