Sanjay Manjrekar and Irfan Pathan Fight On Live TV: Former Indian cricketers Sanjay Manjrekar and Irfan Pathan collided on live television over Yashasvi Jaiswal’s run-out in the ongoing Australia vs India Border-Gavaskar Trophy at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
What Happened?
In the IND vs AUS match, Virat Kohli and Yashaswi Jaiswal were on the pitch. Jaiswal was nearing a century, scoring 82 runs by smacking 11 boundaries and a six. But everything fell off in the 6th ball of the 40th over.
It was Scott Boland to Yashasvi Jaiswal. Bolland bowled a full delivery towards the stump, and Yashasvi Jaiswal flicked it straight to mid-on. Jaiswal was in a hurry to run, seeing Virat Kohli at the opposite end, already a few steps ahead from his crease at the non-striker’s end. Watching the ball, Kohli forgot to look at his partner, who had almost reached the non-striker’s end when Pat Cummins got the ball. Virat decided to not run as the ball was quick to go to the fielder. Cummins threw the ball to the striker’s end, and Carey picked it up to thrash the bails. The Virat-Jaiswal mix-up cost India an important wicket at a crucial time.

Manjrekar slammed Virat Kohli for ball-watching rather than keeping an eye on Jaiswal. The former cricketer said that ‘it was a schoolboy error from Virat.’
“Ball was going slow; I don’t think Kohli would’ve been run out. It was Jaiswal’s call. Maybe a risky run, but he was at the danger end, not Kohli. It was a schoolboy error from Virat that he looked back and decided it wasn’t a run. If it was a bad call from Jaiswal, he would’ve gotten out at the non-striker’s end,” Manjrekar said.
Irfan Pathan disagreed with Manjrekar and said that Virat didn’t run because he was also at risk of getting run out, as it was a quick hit from Jaiswal. Athan added that Kohli had already seen the ball reaching to the fielder, and he was right to not take a risk and go for a run.
Manjrekar countered it by saying, “You’re not giving the right example.”
Irfan replied that this isn’t about truth or falsehood but just an opinion.
“This is not about sacchai aur jhoot (truth and falsehood). This is an opinion.”
Manjrekar got irritated at Pathan, saying,
“If you don’t want to let me talk, it’s alright.”
Manjrekar didn’t stop there. He went overboard to taunt the former pace sensation.
“Irfan Pathan’s new interpretation of whether it is a run or not should be added to the coaching manual.”
Though Virat wasn’t the one who got run out at that time, he soon lost his wicket to Scott Boland, and Manjekar said that it may be due to the fact that the RCB star might have lost his concentration after Jaiswal’s chaotic run-out.
“Kohli’s dismissal is probably also down to the guilt he had inside his heart over Jaiswal’s run-out. He was leaving outside-off deliveries until then but lost his concentration after the run-out incident,” he said.
