Saliva On Ball Back In IPL 2025: BCCI has re-introduced a very controversial rule ahead of IPL 2025. The board has also continued yet another controversial law in the Indian Premier League.
First, the law that was brought back. Back in 2020, at the onset and mass spread of COVID-19, cricket as a sport had to adapt as well and give up some of its old traditions. While bio-bubbles were all the rage back then, another major rule introduced was the banning of the application of saliva on the ball.
Bowlers and fielders have used saliva to keep one-half of the ball shiny, which helps with the movement of the ball in the latter portions of the inning. WHile it was considered a crucial (and gross) part of the game, it was understandable as to why it was decided that the application of saliva should be banned with a pandemic raging across the world.

However, the BCCI has now lifted the ban on saliva in the IPL. As reported by Bharat Sharma of the Press Trust of India, with the 2025 season of the Indian Premier League right around the corner, this rule will bring a much-needed respite to bowlers, who had a historically bad season in 2024 across the board.

However, the return of this rule will not be universally celebrated, as many fans and experts supported the ban on the application of saliva on a cricket ball.
Yet another controversial that will remain in IPL 2025 will be the Impact Player rule. Introduced in 2023, the rule allows for an ‘Impact Player’ to replace a player in the Playing XI. This allows teams to play an extra batter or bowler (depending upon if the team bats or bowls first) and then make a substitution in the middle of the inning. A team can also bring in an extra batter in case their batting order collapses.
There has been a lot of criticism surrounding this rule, as many believe that it reduces the importance of genuine all-rounders in a squad.
However, as reported by Gaurav Gupta, the rule is here to stay in the IPL for now, as it will be in effect in IPL 2025.
