Tamil Nadu bowler R Sai Kishore believes that he is among the very best bowlers in the world when he executes his plans well.
SAi Kishore has been one of the most prolific bowlers on the domestic circuit for the past few years. He is a left-arm orthodox spinner, in a similar vein to Ravindra Jadeja or Axar Patel, but Kishore gives the ball a little more flight.
His statistics in domestic cricket are mind-boggling. In 39 first-class games, he has taken a whopping 166 wickets with an average of 24.01.
As the formats get shorter, his averages fall too. In List A cricket, Kishore has 92 wickets in 54 games with an average of 20.96. Meanwhile, in domestic T20s, he has 70 wickets in 62 games with an average of 18.2 and a sub-six economy.
The 27-year-old has played in the last two seasons of the IPL as well, for the Gujarat Titans. Having played only 10 games across two seasons, Sai Kishore has 13 wickets to his name with an average of 19.85 and an economy of 8.32, which is fine for an off-spinner who bowled in the batter’s paradise that was IPL 2024.
Sai Kishore Thinks Of Himself As Best In The World
In a recent interview with Sportskeeda, R Sai Kishore commented on the belief he has in himself and his ability to execute plans. When discussing how well he rates himself, the left-arm spinner had this to say:
“If you execute, there are very few players who can actually take you on. I’m one of the best bowlers in the world, and I really believe it,” Sai Kishore claims. “When I execute, you can name people who can hit me. If an over is going for 20+, I wasn’t at my best with the execution. That is what would have happened. And from a team management call, they only gave me that over because I’m ready for it and up for the challenge.”
Sai Kishore has also played three T20Is for the Indian National Cricket Team. In the 2023 Asian Games, he played for the Indian side captained by Ruturaj Gaikwad. Having played three games for India in Hangzhou, China, Kishore took four wickets en route to winning a gold medal.
In the same interview, he also discussed his national team debut and the circumstances surrounding it, about which Sai said this:
“A lot of things aligned for me to play there; I went there as a net bowler. Akash Deep didn’t get his visa, and I was very impressed, so I played the games. When a lot of things happen, the mind won’t take it. You can’t explain how these things happen; they just flow. Because of this conditioning, naturally, you become very emotional.”
Having not been picked for India’s tour to Zimbabwe, R Sai Kishore will star for the Dream Tiruppur Tamizhans in the Tamil Nadu Premier League that starts today.
