Sachin Tendulkar lashes out at Team India: Rarely does Sachin Tendulkar get critical publically about the Indian cricket team. But such were the shambolic performances of the Asian giants in their embarrassing series defeat—a proper 3-0 whitewash; an annihilation—to New Zealand at home that even the ever-calm Master Blaster asked for introspection among the team and the players about their plans and preparations in the lead-up to the IND vs NZ series.
With wins in Bengaluru and Pune in the first two of the three-match Test series, New Zealand had already registered their maiden Test series win in India. But they didn’t stop there and went on to whitewash the hosts with a 25-run victory in Mumbai in the third Test.
This is the first time in history that India have been whitewashed in a home Test series of three or more matches. The batsmen have come under huge scrutiny as India suffered collapses in all six innings in this series. While the Kiwi pacers thumped the Indian batsman in the pace-friendly conditions in Bengaluru, on the spin-friendly tracks in Pune and Mumbai, it were spinners Mitchell Santner, Ajaz Patel, and Glenn Phillips who brought the downfall of the famed Indian batsmen.
Sachin Tendulkar lashes out at Team India following 3-0 whitewash against New Zealand
Sachin Tendulkar took to Twitter to express his thoughts and opinions regarding the series loss to the Kiwis. The batting legend promptly called for introspection of the losses.
Pondering the reasons for the poor batting shows, Tendulkar asked whether the batsmen were under-prepared, if they lacked match practice, or whether their shot selection was out of place across the series.
Tendulkar tweeted,
“Losing 3-0 at home is a tough pill to swallow, and it calls for introspection. Was it lack of preparation, was it poor shot selection, or was it lack of match practice?”
Tendulkar praised Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant, India’s two best batsmen of the Mumbai Test, writing,
“@ShubmanGill showed resilience in the first innings, and @RishabhPant17 was brilliant in both innings— his footwork made a challenging surface look like a different one altogether. He was simply superb.“
The 51-year-old former India batsman hailed the New Zealand team for doing what no team before them had done in Test cricket.
Tendulkar added,
“Full credit to New Zealand for their consistent performance throughout the series. Winning 3-0 in India is as good a result as it can get.”
