Ruud van Nistelrooy The Serial Sacker: Former Manchester United striker and current Leicester City manager Ruud van Nistelrooy has now emerged as what some fans are dubbing the ”serial sacker.” This means that he has previously been and will be in the future the reason behind Premier League managers losing their jobs.
The Dutch striker was considered one of the best players of his generation in the 2000s, having played for the likes of Man United and Real Madrid for the entire decade and shining at those clubs.
Nine years after his retirement in 2012 at the age of 35, Ruud began his managerial career in 2021 at Jong PSV, the youth side of Eredivisie club PSV Eindhoven. In 2022, he was promoted to the senior team, where he won the KNVB Cup and the Johan Cruyff Shield within one season he was in charge.
At the start of the 2024-25 season, van Nistelrooy joined his former club, The Red Devils, as assistant manager under Erik Ten Hag. But after a historically bad start to the season for the club, which saw them floundering in the bottom third of the league table, Ten Hag was sacked.

While United looked for a permanent replacement, Nistelrooy was brought in as the interim manager. This is where our story begins.
The 48-year-old managed Manchester United for four games. Two of them were league games, one was in the EFL Cup, and one was in the Europa League. Ruud van Nistelrooy’s first game in charge in Manchester was a cup game against Leicester City, a game that United won 5-2.
Next was a PL game against a good-looking Chelsea side that ended 1-1. The Europa League game against PAOK was a 2-0 win. The last Nistelrooy game for United was a league game against Leicester. So, for the second time in 11 days, the Old Trafford-based club won this fixture by three goals, 3-0 to be exact.
After this game, van Nistelrooy left the club and was hired by Leicester City. The Foxes had hired Welshman Steve Cooper as their manager at the start of the season. But after a poor run of form, including the two losses at the hands of Nistelrooy’s United, he was sacked on November 24. Now, the man partially responsible for Cooper losing his job is the man who replaced him.
Well, it now seems that Ruud van Nistelrooy will be the reason for another Premier League manager losing their job. In his first game in charge at Leicester, his team defeated West Ham 3-1.
The Hammers, managed by former Los Blancos manager Julen Lopetegui, are in some trouble of their own. They are currently 14th on the league table and have now lost three of their last five games.
So with West Ham not having a good season, several of their fans called for the manager’s sacking during the recent game against Leicester. So once again, van Nistelrooy is the reason behind fans calling for a manager’s sacking.
This has led to some fans calling Ruud van Nistelrooy the “serial sacker.”
Nisterooy’s Leicester City is currently 15th in the Premier League and will take on Brighton in their next game at home on Sunday, December 8.
