27-year-old Ruturaj has taken the reigns of the franchise from the most successful captain in IPL history, MS Dhoni, who will likely retire at the end of this season.
So far, the Super Kings have won three matches in five and have six points. They are currently fourth on the league table and will be looking to stack up some wins to push themselves up in the table.
On a personal level, Gaikwad has had a mixed run in IPL 2024. In the five matches he has played and opened for CSK this season, he has scored 155 runs with an average of 38.75 and a strike rate of just over 117.
This low strike rate can be attributed to CSK’s recent win over KKR, where he scored 67 not out in 58 balls in a 138-run chase, playing a captain’s knock and ensuring his side crossed the finishing line against a tricky KKR bowling attack. This was also his first 50 of the season.
CSK will next take on their arch-rivals Mumbai Indians on April 11 in Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium.
