Ruturaj Gaikwad Gives Reason Behind CSK Loss: Chennai Super Kings captain Ruturaj Gaikwad blames Chennai Super Kings’ batting lineup for the recent loss against Lucknow Super Giants and also names a major flaw in the team’s bowling attack.
CSK took on LSG in Match 24 of IPL 2024 in Lucknow’s Ekana Stadium. While the pitch did not look like a 200-run one, CSK was faltering at 145/6 at the end of the 18th over. It was MS Dhoni’s antics at the end which pushed the side to a respectable total of 176.
The score seemed like it might not be enough. And that proved to be true when Quinton de Kock and captain KL Rahul notched up a 134-run opening partnership and took the game away from the Super Kings.
While the contest did become a little spicy right at the end, LSG did end up winning by eight wickets with six balls to spare.
Ruturaj Gaikwad Gives Reason Behind CSK Loss
In the post-match presentation, CSK’s new captain Ruturaj Gaikwad seemed displeased with his side’s batting performance, feeling they fell 10-15 runs short.
“We were 10-15 runs short. The pitch was slow during our batting, but it changed completely in the second innings due to dew. The batting became a lot easier,” he said.

A lot of CSK players on the day played slow-ish innings. Apart from S Dhoni, who scored 28 in 9 balls with a strike rate of 311.11, no other batter crossed the strike rate of 150. Ravindra Jadeja, who was the team’s highest run scorer with 57, did so in 40 balls with an SR of 142.5.
Even the captain himself only managed to score 17-off-13 with a 130.77 strike rate.
But that is not all Gaikwad was unhappy about from his team’s performance. He also pointed out how they failed to pick a wicket in the powerplay and how this has been an issue for CSK in this tournament. He said –
“We have failed to take wickets in the powerplay overs and this is one area where we need an improvement. On venues where we are 10 runs short, the only way to win a game is by taking wickets in the powerplay. We will discuss about it to rectify the shortcomings before our next match.”
Despite this loss, CSK is still third on the table with eight points in seven matches. They will have a rematch with Lucknow Super Giants in their next match on April 23, this time at their home ground of the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
