Ever since his retirement from international cricket, speculations surrounding MS Dhoni and his IPL status have been swirling. It seems that the Chennai-based franchise has been looking for someone who can replace him as captain.
In 2022, CSK appointed Ravindra Jadeja as captain. But that experiment failed miserably as the franchise had to give back the role to MS mid-season.
It now looks like CSK has found their captain of the future. 27-year-old Gaikwad, who has been semi-regular in the national team, has some winning experience as captain on the international stage. Ruturaj led the young Indian team in the 2023 Asian Games to a gold medal in China.
The announcement was made one day before the start of the tournament. Chennai Super Kings will kick off the tournament and start their title defence on March 22 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium. Ruturaj Gaikwad will captain his first match for the franchise in front of their home crowd.
