When Portuguese Coach Weighed in On Ronaldo v Messi GOAT Debate: Sporting Lisbon’s former manager, Jorge Jesus, once famously snubbed Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi in the GOAT debate. Instead of the two modern superstars, Jesus picked Argentina football legend Diego Maradona to be the greatest footballer who ever lived.
Ronaldo and Messi are considered the all-time greats of football by many, with both being at the top of football for more than 15 years. But when it comes to the GOAT debate, everyone has their own opinions and reasons for what Jesus has for picking his football. GOAT is the passion towards the game.
Portuguese Coach Weighs In On Ronaldo v Messi GOAT Debate
The Portuguese coach has never seen someone as passionate as Maradona towards the game. He thinks his countryman CR7 has a little passion while Lionel Messi doesn’t.
“Today, among the best two in the world, Cristiano Ronaldo has a little of that (what Maradona had). Messi has nothing. He doesn’t have any passion. Messi is a great player. But we’re talking about life and feelings, having passion for the game and for football. I think Maradona was above anyone in that regard,” Jesus said (via GOAL).
He also placed Brazil legend Pele along with Diego Maradona.
“Maradona was the best player ever, along with Pele. Pele’s still here, he’s alive. Maradona was greater, not just because he was a genius, but because of how he showed it. That makes the difference for me,” Jesus added.
He continued:
“He was absolutely world-class, but he had a passion for the game, he was born to be a footballer, he was born with everything. It was not a product of work, he was born like that. But he still loved having the ball.
