Rohit Sharma Will Likely Not Play For MI In 2025: Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra believes that former Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma is done with the franchise and will likely not want to stay with the franchise next season.
Sharma, who is the Indian Cricket Team captain in ODIs and Tests, is the joint-most successful IPL captain in history. Ever since taking charge of the Indians in 2013, he has won a whopping five titles as the skipper, which is the joint-most alongside Chennai Super Kings’ MS Dhoni.
Despite winning five championships, it seemed that the MI ownership was looking to replace Rohit as the captain. In the three seasons since winning in 2020, they finished fifth, last, and fourth, respectively. This is the reason that the franchise decided to not only bring Hardik Pandya back after two successful years at the Gujarat Titans but also name the all-rounder the captain.
In one of the biggest controversies of IPL 2024, the turmoil and division caused by Pandya replacing Sharma as the captain imploded the team. They finished the league in 10th place for the second time in the last three years.
From reports of The Hitman not being happy to even the team splitting into factions backstage, the whole scene did a lot of harm to the team.
Reports also emerged that Rohit Sharma has requested to leave the Mumbai Indians before the 2025 season. And with a mega-auction for the next season in sight, he might have requested the team ownership to not be retained.
Rohit Sharma Will Likely Not Play For MI In 2025
This is something that former Indian cricketer and now commentator Aakash Chopra feels as well. In a recent video released on his YouTube channel, Chopra reckoned that Rohit would be leaving the Indians ahead of the next season and would explore other ventures.
“Rohit Sharma will not stay, and his journey with the Mumbai Indians is over. I feel he might leave himself. Rohit will not be retained. I don’t have any information with me, but I feel his time is up, and he will be released. There is a possibility that he will not come to the auction table, as he could go to another franchise in the trade window,” he said.
While we know that there will be a mega auction for the 2025 IPL season, we still don’t know how many players each team will be allowed to retain, with the current estimate saying 5-6.
