The Indian cricket team recorded one of their most famous wins in recent years as they demolished Bangladesh in the Kanpur Test by 7 wickets.
India shattered the records of the fastest team 50, 100, 150, 200, and 250 in Test cricket, which allowed them to force a result in a Test match that lost more than two-and-a-half days to rain and wet outfield.
Bangladesh’s first innings ended an hour into the second session on day 4 at 233. India responded by utterly smoking the visiting bowlers, piling up 285 runs in only 34.4 overs.
Yashasvi Jaiswal struck three fours in the first over, and Rohit Sharma blasted three sixes in the first five balls he faced. That set the tone for the entire innings. It allowed India to have enough time to bowl Bangladesh out again and chase the target of 95 runs.
India’s assault on Bangladesh bowlers, and the fact that they have created a result in a game where so much time was lost, has made huge waves in the world of cricket.
Rohit Sharma walked the talk: R Ashwin
Senior cricketer R Ashwin has revealed Rohit Sharma’s decision and his message to the players ahead of the start of India’s first innings. Ashwin revealed Rohit told the batters to go hard in an ultra-aggressive manner.
“In the small huddle we had yesterday (on Monday) after we bowled out Bangladesh, Rohit said that we would go hammer and tong, try and make 400 runs in 50 overs, and then if in that bargain, we got out under 200, it is still okay as we had made a game out of it,” Ashwin said.
“We knew how Yashavi (Jaiswal) was going to play, but Rohit walked out and tonked the first ball for a six, and when you walk the talk, the dressing room obviously doesn’t have many other choices but to follow that pattern. We were 50 runs in 3 overs, and there was no looking back after that.”
Ashwin bagged the Man of the Series award for scoring a century and picking 11 wickets in the series. This is his 11th Man of the Series award, equaling the record of Sri Lanka’s Muttiah Muralitharan.
