Rohit Sharma Record In T20 World Cup Finals: India will take on South Africa in the final of the 2024 T20 World Cup tonight. Captain Rohit Sharma has led the Men in Blue to their third ICC tournament final in a year. To win their first major trophy since 2013, India will take on a national team playing in their first-ever World Cup final.
Rohit Sharma has led India from the front in this tournament. The highest run-scorer on his team, the 37-year-old scored two crucial half-centuries against Australia and England in the last two matches.
Now playing his third final in a year, this is not the first time Rohit has been in the final of the T20 World Cup. Rohit Sharma has two T20 World Cup finals under his belt, in which he has a 50-50 record.
Sharma was a big part of India’s 2007 World T20 triumph under MS Dhoni’s captaincy. In the first year of his international career, a young Rohit used to be a middle-order batsman back then.

But how has Rohit Sharma fared in the T20 World Cup finals, how well has he batted, and how many runs has he scored? Let’s have a look.
In the 2007 final against Pakistan in Johannesburg, South Africa, India won the toss and decided to bat first. Rohit came out to bat at no. 6 after MS Dhoni was dismissed in the 16th over, and the score was 111/4.
Batting alongside Gautam Gambhir, who had already scored a half-century, Rohit played the fastest inning for any Indian on that day as he scored 30-off-16. These runs were crucial in taking India to 157 runs, as India only won that game by five runs.
The 2014 T20 World Cup was played in Bangladesh. India was by far the best team in that tournament. Having won all group matches, MS Dhoni’s men beat South Africa in the semis to book a date with Sri Lanka in the final.
Being played in Dhaka’s Sher-e-Bangla Stadium, the Lankans won the toss and put India to bat first. Rohit was one of only two batters to score more than 20 runs for India that day. His slow inning of 29-off-26 played a big role in India only managing to score 130 runs, which Sri Lanka chased down with ease.
So, Rohit Sharma has played in two T20 World Cup finals, winning one and losing one. In these two matches, he has scored 59 runs on 42 balls. His innings have also played a big role in India’s fate in those matches.
Rohit Sharma will play his third T20 World Cup final in 2024, this time as a captain. Not only will he be looking to put on his biggest score in a final, but he will also be looking to win his first trophy for India as the captain.
India will take on South Africa in the final of the 2024 T20 World Cup at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados, on Saturday, June 29, at 8:00 p.m. (IST).
