Rohit Sharma Makes Bold Statement About Australia: India captain Rohit Sharma is aware of the threats that Australia will pose in their upcoming clash: India and Australia will meet in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 semi-final on March 4, Tuesday, in Dubai.
This fixture was sealed when India defeated New Zealand in their third group stage game on Sunday, following wins over Bangladesh and Pakistan, and finished at the top of Group A. They will take on Australia, who finished second in Group B.
The second semi-final will be between New Zealand and South Africa on Wednesday in Lahore. The final will take place on March 9, and its venue will be either Dubai or Lahore, depending on whether India win their semi-final or not.
India and Australia met in the Super 4 round of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup last year, where India emerged victorious. But Australia gave the Indian team and their fans scars for a lifetime when they defeated Rohit’s side in the ICC World Cup 2023 final in Ahmedabad.
Rohit Sharma Makes Bold Statement About Australia Ahead of the IND vs AUS Champions Trophy Semifinal
The current Australian team in the Champions Trophy has a completely different pace attack, as all three of Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins, and Josh Hazlewood are recovering from injuries, while Mitchell Marsh also is injured.
Yet, Rohit Sharma understands that Australia are a really tough opposition in ICC competitions regardless of who they are missing.
After the win over New Zealand on Sunday, Rohit reflected on the semi-final against Australia, saying,
“It [the semi-final] is going to be a good game, and obviously we know Australia has a rich history of playing ICC tournaments well. We do understand that; it’s about what we want to do against the opposition and try and do that right. We’re all looking forward to that contest, and hopefully we can stitch one [more win] towards us.”
India are the only team in the Champions Trophy to win all their three group games, though South Africa saw one of their games getting washed out, and Australia’s two matches ended in a no result.
Rohit further added,
“I think it [momentum] is very, very critical when you’re playing such a short tournament. You try and possibly win every game that is in front of you and try and do everything right, and while doing that, there are bound to be mistakes, but as long as you correct them quickly, that is what matters. I thought the mistakes that we’ve been making from game one now, we tend to correct those mistakes, and that is what is required.”
