Rohit Sharma injury update vs Ireland: The Indian team management and the Indian fans must have felt worried for a while after Rohit Sharma left the field clutching his arm during India’s game against Ireland on Wednesday.
India played Ireland for their opening game of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York.
Although India won the game comfortably by 8 wickets with the pacers running riot before Rohit hit a fifty, the fans and the management were left in a state of distress as Rohit had suffered a blow on his upper arm from a delivery by Josh Little, and he had then retired hurt himself.
The pitch in New York has come under huge criticism and scrutiny. It has inconsistent bounce and exaggerated sideways movement. The problem for the batters has been the ball shooting up from length, which makes six-hitting incredibly challenging.
One such ball from Josh Little reared up from length in the 9th over of India’s innings and hit Rohit Sharma on his upper arm. Although Rohit continued to bat and hit Little for two pull shot sixes before raising his fifty, he walked off soon after reaching half-century.

Rohit Sharma injury update vs Ireland: Out From India vs Pakistan?
The fans were concerned about Rohit’s fitness and whether he would be fit to lead the side against Pakistan on June 9.
The India captain diffused all the concerns and played it down as just a sore. He assured that he would be fine and would feature against Pakistan.
At the post-match presentation, Rohit said he was “just a little sore” from the blow to his arm.
Speaking about the pitch, Sharma said,
“I said it at the toss, we were quite unsure of what to expect from the pitch. It’s a new ground, new venue, drop-in pitch, we weren’t aware of what’s it like to pay on a pitch that is five-months old. It was all about getting used to the conditions, that’s why we opted to bowl first. I don’t think the wicket settled down even when we batted second. There was enough for the bowlers, all in all, happy to get those two points, was very important.”
India and Pakistan will also play in New York on June 9. With both teams having some world-class fast bowlers—India’s Bumrah, Arshdeep, Siraj, and Hardik against Pakistan’s Shaheen, Haris Rauf, and Naseem Shah—it promises to be a tough survival battle for the batters on Sunday.
