Rohit Sharma hit on the knee during nets: In what could be a really massive blow to Team India, captain Rohit Sharma has suffered a major injury scare as he was hit on his knee while batting in the nets at the MCG on Sunday.
The BGT 2024-25 caravan has moved to Melbourne for the fourth Test, with the series tied at 1-1 after the first three Tests.
In the first Test, Australia suffered their first-ever defeat at the Optus Stadium in Perth, going down by 295 runs against the Jasprit Bumrah-led unit. However, the hosts bounced back to clinch the day-night Test in Adelaide by 10 wickets.
The third Test in Brisbane ended in a draw, with rain affecting a significant portion of the match.
Rohit Sharma hit on the knee during nets, seen with an ice pack
Reporters at the MCG revealed that the Indian skipper Rohit Sharma was hit on his left knee during a net session while facing the throwdown specialist on Sunday morning at the MCG.
Rohit did bat for a bit more but left batting soon and was attended by the physio. In the images from the venue, Rohit can be seen sitting on a chair with an ice pack on his knee.
“There was pain visible on the right-hander’s face when the ice pack was put on,” said a Times Of India report.
Speedster Akash Deep played down the injury for now, “Such blows are common when you play cricket. I think this wicket was for white-ball which is why the ball was staying low. But these blows are common.”
Rohit, who missed the Perth Test due to the birth of his child, is having a terrible series so far. In three knocks across two Tests, he’s managed only 19 runs. Though it’s been a tough time for most of the batters involved in this series, India would expect their captain and senior batsman to step up in the rest of the two Tests.
The MCG Test in Melbourne, which is the Boxing Day Test, will get underway on December 26.
