Despite a great start by the English openers, the team soon crumbled as their batting order collapsed. It was because of some fine 50s by Jacob Bethell and captain Jos Buttler that the England Cricket Team was able to score 248, on a pitch where the expectation was over 300 runs.
With a relatively easy target on hand, in walked Yashasvi Jaiswal and captain Rohit Sharma to bat. Jaiswal looked like he was in control in the early proceedings, scoring a few good-looking boundaries. But then, in the fifth over, the young opener departed, getting caught behind off of Jofra Archer.
And then, on the first over of the sixth over, bowled by Saqib Mahmood, Rohit looked to punish a poorly placed delivery on his legs by glancing it for a four. But instead, with the pace, the change in pace, the ball takes a thick edge and goes high up in the air, and the skipper gets caught by Liam Livingstone at square leg.

This continues the poor form of ‘The Hitman’ in professional cricket. Having been out of form for some time, Rohit had a disastrous tour to Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, in which he played three matches and scored less than 50 runs.
Following the 3-1 loss in the BGT, BCCI mandated that all national team players would also have to play domestic cricket when available. This meant that almost the entirety of the Indian Cricket Team played a couple of Ranji Trophy matches.
Sharma played one game for Mumbai against Jammu & Kashmir. While it seemed like international players would dominate the domestic first-class tournament, most Indian batters struggled, none more than Rohit Sharma, who scored 3 and 28 runs in the two innings against J&K as Mumbai went on to lose that match by five wickets.
It now seems that Rohit Sharma’s form has continued, for he has been dismissed for just two runs. His finding form in this three-match series is crucial, seeing that India will travel to the UAE for the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy immediately after this series.
