Rohit Sharma Broke 73 Year Old Indian Test Record
India won the toss and chose to bat first in the 3rd Test of the five-match series against England. The match is being played in Rajkot, Gujara’s Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium, considered to be a batter’s haven.
And captain Rohit Sharma took advantage of the batter-friendly conditions. While the top-order crumbled around him as the team was on 33/3, The Hitman strung together a 204-run partnership for the 4th wicket with Ravindra Jadeja.
While trying to stabilise the Indian innings, Sharma scored his 11th Test ton and 3rd against England. His impressive knock of 131 runs off 196 balls saw him hit 3 sixes, which made him the Indian with the second-most sixes in Test cricket with 80.
But the more impressive record he broke stood for 73 years. Back in 1951, legendary Vijay Hazare scored his last Test cricket 100 as captain during independent India’s first cricketing tour to England. At the time, Hazare was 36 years and 278 days old.
Rohit Sharma has now broken the record of the oldest Indian captain to score a Test ton, as he was 36 years and 291 days old today when he scored the 100 against England.
India finished the day on 236/5, with Ravindra Jadeja too scoring a century at his home ground and Sarfaraz Khan scoring a fiery half-century.
