Rohit Sharma And Shubman Gill Disappoint Fans: Yashasvi Jaiswal’s excellent 179* has somewhat papered over the fact that Day 1 of the 2nd Test match of the Pataudi Trophy between India and England was not the best one for the Indian batters. While India did finish the day on 336/6, no Indian batter apart from Jaiswal even scored a half-century.
While the likes of Shreyas Iyer, Rajat Patidar, and Axar Patel would be disappointed for getting out after getting a decent start, the two names who needed to score big to gain some confidence the most were Shubman Gill and captain Rohit Sharma, who both threw their wickets away after showing some promise int he early going.
India won the toss and chose to bat first. While Jaiswal showed his attacking intent right from the start, captain Sharma stood in a supporting role with his young opening partner. But a ball on the legs by debutant Shoaib Bashir saw Rohit give a catch to Ollie Pope standing at leg-slip. He scored 14 runs in 41 balls

Then came in Shubman Gill, who really needed to step up and prove his place in the Test side with a solid knock, and the 24-year-old looked good in the early going scoring fast and playing satisfying shots, but then he edged James Anderson’s ball to slip. Despite a good start, Gill was dismissed on 34 runs in 45 balls.
Rohit Sharma And Shubman Gill Disappoint Fans
Social media was not pleased with the early dismissal of these two, especially in contrast to a brilliant knock by Yashasvi Jaiswal.
Social media does not miss with the jokes, especially when it comes to trolling cricketers –
One fan even hopes that this is the last Test series for Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill. While this might not be the case, some portions of the fanbase believe that is not a good sign –
The last time Rohit Sharma hit a half-century in a Test match was seven innings and four matches ago when he scored a 57 against the West Indies in Port of Spain.
On the other hand, Shubman GIll’s last 50+ score in a Test match was 10 months ago, when he scored 128 against Australia in Ahmedabad. His average in the format after 22 Tests and 40 innings is just below 30, quite dismal for someone pegged as the future of Indian cricket.
