Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya hug: The new Mumbai Indians captain, Hardik Pandya, and the man he replaced at the helm, Rohit Sharma, shared an awkward hug at MI’s practice session ahead of the IPL 2024.
The Mumbai Indians’ social media handles uploaded the video of this moment between the duo to reflect that all of well within the ‘One Family’. However, the awkwardness in the hug made it clear to the fans that the bond is not really the same now between the two superstar players as it was prior to Hardik being appointed as the MI captain.
During a huddle of the players and coaches, Hardik Pandya walked toward Rohit Sharma. While Rohit was going for a handshake, Pandya tried to embrace the senior player in a hug. They had a graceless and ungainly hug that simply didn’t reflect the bond the franchise wants them to show. They exchanged a few words before both moved back into their positions.

Fans have reacted strongly to this awkward hug between Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya:
A couple of days ago, Hardik Pandya attended a pre-tournament press conference where he was asked about the dynamics between him and Rohit. A journalist pointed out to Hardik that Rohit is still the India captain and is set to lead the country in the T20 World Cup, but he will play under Pandya in the IPL 2024.
To this query, the all-rounder responded,
“There won’t be any confusion. He [Rohit] is still the India captain. What this team has achieved was achieved under his belt. I am just carrying it forward. I have played all my cricket with MI with Rohit as captain, so I am sure he will always be around to help me out.”
In a very interesting turn of events, Hardik Pandya’s first match as Mumbai Indians captain will be against his former franchise, Gujarat Titans, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Everyone is excited to see what kind of reception Pandya gets from the Ahmedabad crowd.
Hardik had been traded from GT to MI, where he spent seven seasons from 2015 to 2021. He was released by MI and picked up by GT, who appointed him as their skipper. Hardik led GT to two consecutive IPL finals, winning the trophy in 2022 and losing the IPL 2023 final to CSK.
