Riyan Parag Hits Six 6s In A Row: Rajasthan Royals incumbent captain Riyan Parag hit six sixes in a row against Kolkata Knight Riders, becoming the first player in IPL history to do so. However, there is an asterisk alongside this record, that being that he hit these sixes across two overs.
The Royals are taking on the Knight Riders in Match 53 of the 2025 season of the Indian Premier League. The match is being played at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. For RR, this match is purely for bragging rights, seeing that they are already out of contention for a top-four finish. On the other hand, KKR will be looking at each of their remaining matches as a must-win for a shot at playoff qualification.
In the KKR vs RR match, the home team won the toss and decided to bat first. Sunil Narine’s wicket fell early as Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ajinkya Rahane took the innings through the powerplay. Gurbaz scored 35, and the skipper scored 30. The score was 111/3 in the 13th over by the time both of them got out.
The Knight Riders’ innings was rescued by Andre Russell, who scored a brilliant 57 off 25. This was coupled with a solid finish by Rinku Singh (19 off 6). The pair took their score past the 200-run mark. Kolkata’s score was 206/4 at the end of their 20 overs.
Then came the Rajasthan Royals’ inning, which started falling apart at its seams right away. 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who scored a century against GT a couple of matches ago, was dismissed in the very first over. Kumal Singh Rathore, who came into the side today in place of Nitish Rana, was dismissed for a duck in the very next over.
Yashasvi Jaiswal took charge at this moment. He, along with captain Riyan Parag, took the team past the first six overs before Jaiswal fell for 34 off 21. Dhruv Jurel and Wanindu Hasaranga were then bowled by Varun Chakravarthy in the same over as the RR score stood at 71/5. But then, Parag took charge.
The Royals’ skipper, along with Shimron Hetmyer, stabilised the inning, prevented more wickets from falling, and kept the run rate in check.

But then came the over that threatened to change the winds in this match. At the end of 12 overs, Rajasthan was 102/5. Maeen Ali, who had given only 11 runs and taken two wickets in two overs at that point, came in to bowl the 13th.
On the first ball of the over, Hetmyer took a single, bringing Riyan to strike. The captain hit the second ball for six over square leg, the third for six over long-on, the fourth for six over the square leg region, and the fifth for six over long-on again. The sixth delivery was a wide, so Ali had to bowl it again, and it was dispatched over the long-off boundary.
But a record would be made when, in the next over by Chakravarthy, Hettie took a single on the first ball and Parag hit a six on the second. This meant that the RR skipper had hit six sixes in the last six balls he had played at that point, which had happened for the first time in IPL history.
Riyan Parag would go on to score 95 off 45 before getting out in the 18th over as Rajasthan Royals lost this match by one run after Shubham Dubey kept RR’s hopes alive in the final over. This is their ninth loss of the season in 12 matches.
As for the Kolkata Knight Riders, their win in this KKR vs RR match means that they now have 11 points and a positive net run rate in 11 matches, putting them sixth in the points table and keeping their playoff hopes alive.
