Rishabh Pant Scores Quick 50 Before Getting Out: Indian wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant played a blistering knock, which brought the Indian Cricket Team storming into their ongoing Test match against New Zealand before getting dismissed by leg-spinner Ish Sodhi.
Today is Day Two of the third of three India vs New Zealand Test matches and is being played in the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. On Day One, New Zealand won the toss and decided to bat first.
The Kiwis saw an in-form Devon Conway get dismissed early before the inning settled into a pace with Will Young and skipper Tom Latham. After the captain was dismissed, Rachhin Ravindra came in and almost immediately was bowled by Washington Sundar. But from this point, Young and Daryl Mitchell built an 80-run partnership. And by the time Will Young was dismissed, the team was at 159/4, at which point the inning started to collapse.
By the time the BlackCaps reached 210 runs, they had lost seven wickets. And even though Daryl Mitchell played a fine knock of 81 runs, the team was all out for 235. And so, India got to bat on the first day too.
But it was not a good day for the home side. First, captain Rohit Sharma was dismissed after a run a ball 18. Then, young stalwarts Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill built a decent partnership before Jaiswal was dismissed for 30/ With the score at 18/2 and a few overs remaining, Mohammed Siraj was sent in as the night watchman but was dismissed on the first ball. Virat Kohli then came out and was soon run out. At the end of the day, the Indian score was 86/4.

Day Two started with Gill and Rishabh Pant on the crease. These two young stars then took the mantle of rescuing the team. While Gill played at a slower pace and rotated the strike well, Pant came out with all guns blazing.
Rishabh especially took on Ajaz Patel, who he his for a couple of boundaries early. While playing on 21 in 20 deliveries, he stepped out to Patel and hit a massive six over long on.
The former Delhi Capitals captain went on to score a quickfire 50. At the score of 53. He stepped out to a full toss by Glenn Phillips and played it towards long off. The ball flew straight towards Matt Henry, who went on to drop the catch.
But after such an attacking inning, a delivery with his wicket on it finally came. On the previous delivery, Pant scored a four after reading Ish Sodhi’s wrong one. But on the next one, the ball turned sharply inwards and found Rishabh’s pads as the umpire raised his finger. A DRS review came back with an ‘Umpire’s Call’ verdict on hitting the stumps, and thus the wicket stood.
Rishabh Pant was dismissed for 60 in 59 deliveries. He scored eight 4s and hit two sixes, playing with a strike rate of 101.59. His nearly 100-run partnership with Shubman Gill brought the team total to 180/5 when he was dismissed, putting the Indian Cricket Team in a strong position on Day Two, trailing by 40 runs with five wickets in hand.
At lunch, the team total is 195/5, with Gill playing on 70. India will most likely take the lead in the first inning and might just save this third Test match after losing a home series for the first time since 2012.
