Rishabh Pant Opens Up About DC Releasing Him: Rishabh Pant was surprisingly released by the Delhi Capitals in the IPL 2024 retention. The player broke the silence for the first time after the event, replying to Sunil Gavaskar’s claims over his release from the Capitals.
Pant was expected to be one of the primary retentions of the Delhi Capitals. But when the team released the retention list, the player wasn’t on the list, and instead, the franchise went with Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Tristan Stubbs, and Abhishek Porel for ₹16.50 crore,₹13.25 crore,₹10 crore, and₹4 crore, respectively.
“Wasn’t About the Money”: Rishabh Pant Opens Up About DC Releasing Him
Cricketer turned commentator Sunil Gavaskar claimed that the player’s release might be based on the financial terms and the franchise might try to go to reclaim him back in the auction.
“What I feel is Delhi Capitals would want Rishabh Pant back in their squad. Sometimes, when a player has to be retained, there are talks between the franchise and players over the fees, as expected. As some of the players who have been retained by their franchises, they have gone for more than what the No. 1 retention fee deduction would be. So clearly, I think there may be some disagreement there. But, my feeling is Delhi would want Rishabh Pant back,” said Gavaskar.
Rishabh Pant’s Twitter handle was quick to respond to it by saying:
“My retention wasn’t about the money for sure that I can say,” Rishabh Pant said in his reply to the post on X, formerly Twitter.
Rishabh Pant is in Australia training for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy with Team India. The first match of the series will commence on November 22 at the Optus Stadium, Perth. The wicketkeeper’s position in the T20I side is under doubt as Sanju Samson has been in incredible form, hitting 3 centuries in the last 5 matches.
The IPL 2025 mega auction will be taking place in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on November 24 and 25. It has to be waited and seen how hard DC would go for their 2023 IPL captain.
