‘I have been fortunate to be a blessed soul’: Rishabh Pant nominated for Laureus Sports Awards
Rishabh Pant had suffered serious knee injuries during a car accident in December 2025 while he was driving from Delhi to his hometown in Roorkee. He was fortunately saved by a couple of bypassers.
Then, he made a miraculous return to the field in IPL 2024 and earned a place directly in India’s T20 World Cup squad, where he played all matches and made important contributions with the bat and as a wicket-keeper as India lifted the trophy.
“I have always believed that the biggest virtue of life is to be grateful for everything God has blessed you with. Over the course of my life, I have focused on being positive and happy in every situation, trusting the power of self-belief and resilience to deal with every challenge. When I survived the near-fatal car crash, I realized that I have been fortunate to be a blessed soul, which inspired me to work extremely hard to undo everything and return to the pitch as a better version of myself with greater motivation,” Pant said in an official release.
Pant returned to the Test side as well and slammed a century on his comeback Test against Bangladesh. He was one of India’s best batters during the 3-0 drubbing against New Zealand at home and slammed a sizzling half-century in the Sydney Test against Australia.
Currently, he has been on the bench in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 as India have preferred KL Rahul for the keeper-batsman’s position.
Later on, he will be leading the Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL 2025. He was bought by LSG for a record sum of INR 27 crore in the IPL 2025 mega auction.
