Rishabh Pant Close To Getting Banned In IPL 2024: Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pantis on the verge of being banned for a match in IPL 2024 as the captain of the Delhi Capitals.
Pant’s return to the field has been one of the headline stories of this IPL season. After 15 months of intense recovery following a gruesome car crash in December 2022, the wicketkeeper-batter returned to cricket as the captain of the Delhi Capitals.
He has also found his form back, having scored back-to-back half-centuries in the last two matches. The 26-year-old is also hitting his signature shots and looking good behind the stumps.

But all the ‘feel-good’ stories surrounding him will not help with the fact that Pant might be very close to a one-match ban in IPL 2024.
The blame for slow over-rates in cricket falls on the shoulders of the bowling side’s captain. While measures have been put in place to prevent slow over-rates, teams do fall guilty of it sometimes.

IPL Code of Conduct dictates that if a team fails to maintain the over rate for three matches in a season, the team captain will be suspended for a match.
As you might have guessed already, Delhi Capitals has been found guilty of slo over-rate twice this season already. The first was in a surprise win over Chennai Super Kings, while the second was in the side’s most recent contest against Kolkata Knight Riders, which ended in a humiliating defeat for DC.
Rishabh Pant has already been fined Rs. 12 lakh and 24 lakh respectively for his two violations of the over rate as DC captain. His next offence will see him being suspended for a match.
DC’s most recent match against KKR was one to forget. While batting first, the Knight Riders nearly broke the recently created record of most runs in an IPL innings when they notched up a mammoth 272. Chasing a staggering target, the Capitals faltered and were bowled out for 166.
While DC bowlers were knocked all over the part against KKR, they also failed to maintain the over rate.
Delhi Capitals, after losing three out of their first four matches this season, will take on the Mumbai Indian in their next match on April 7 in Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium.
