Rinku Singh Speaks With Rohit Sharma: Only a couple of days after being snubbed from the 15-man squad for the T20 World Cup, Rinku Singh was spotted speaking with India captain Rohit Sharma at the Wankhede Stadium.
Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders will contest match number 51 of the IPL 2024 on Friday evening in Mumbai. While Rohit Sharma is not the MI captain, he is Team India’s skipper and made crucial suggestions about the make-up of the 15-member squad that will fly to the West Indies and the USA for the tournament in June.
Everyone was left shocked that Rinku Singh, who has a jaw-dropping record in T20Is where he averages 89 with a strike rate of 176 in 15 T20Is, was left out of the squad; Rinku, though, will fly with the team as a reserve player.
The chief selector, Ajit Agarkar, explained that leaving Rinku out of the main squad was the toughest decision for the selection committee and the management, but they decided to go with an extra spinner instead of Rinku as they are expecting dry and sluggish surfaces in the West Indies, where India will play their Super 8 matches and the knockouts should they qualify for them.
Rinku Singh speaks with Rohit Sharma:
A day before the KKR vs MI match at the Wankhede Stadium, KKR’s official social media handle posted a picture of Rinku Singh speaking with Rohit Sharma.
KKR captioned the post: “Following T20 World Cup Squad Snub”
Speaking in a press conference on Thursday, Ajit Agarkar said on Rinku’s exclusion,
“Probably the toughest thing we have had to do. He has done nothing wrong, nor has Shubman Gill. It’s again the combinations. Like Rohit said, we are not sure about what conditions we will get. We have tried to have enough options. There are a couple of wrist spinners, Chahal and Kuldeep, to give Rohit more options.”
Rinku hasn’t had the best of the IPL season so far. And that is down to KKR underutilizing him and moving him much down the order.
