Rinku Singh Does Not Believe In Bad Times: Kolkata Knight Riders batter Rinku Singh believes that he is not going through a tough time despite his underwhelming form in this IPL and the fact that he was not picked in the 15-man squad for the 2024 T20 World Cup.
KKR has not been dependent on Rinku in IPL 2024. While the explosive middle-order batter has not gotten too many chances, KKR has prospered this season, finishing at the top of the league table for the first time in franchise history.
The 26-year-old had a spectacular 2023 season for the Knight Riders, scoring 474 runs in 14 matches with a strike rate of 150 and an average of almost 60. That season brought him to the dance for the national team, where he scored 356 runs in 11 innings with an average of 89 and a strike rate of 176.23 in the T20s.
With such performances, it looked like he was a lock-in for the 2024 T20 World Cup squad. But that did not happen, partly because of his underwhelming IPL 2024, where he has only scored 168 runs with an average of 18.67.
Coming from a humble background, Rinku Singh has naturally seen a lot of struggle coming up the ranks in Uttar Pradesh.
Rinku Singh Does Not Believe In Bad Times
In a recent video released by the IPL on social media, Rinku claimed that struggle comes part and parcel with working towards one’s goals. In the video, the Aligarh native said this about the concept of ‘bad times’, commenting,
“Time is bad only for those who don’t have hands or legs. We have hands and legs, so our time is not bad. Everyone cried when India didn’t win the World Cup. But all we can do is leave that behind and move on.”
While not part of the 15-man squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup, Rinku is still part of the four-man reserve player unit along with Shubman Gill, Avesh Khan, and Khaleel Ahmed.
In the same video, the left-handed batter said that he was hopeful to lift the T20 World Cup trophy, as he has not won any trophies in his senior career.
“I have never won a trophy at the senior level. Now that I am going to the (T20) World Cup, I am hoping that I have the trophy in my hands. The dream is to win a big trophy,” he said.
Kolkata Knight Riders will face Sunrisers Hyderabad in Qualifier 1 of IPL 2024 tonight in Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium to qualify for the final. Rinku Singh might just get to lift his first trophy in professional cricket by the end of this week.
