Ricky Ponting Calls Out Poor Performance By DC: Ricky Ponting is not having the best time as the coach of Delhi Capitals in the 2024 season of the IPL. He has now spoken about his team’s poor performance in their most recent match against Kolkata Knight Riders.
DC took on KKR in their fourth match of IPL 2024. The Knight Riders won the toss, chose to bat, and wreaked havoc on the Capitals’ bowling.
Everyone who came on to bat slogged away. First, it was Sunil Narine and Phil Salt. When Salt was dismissed, U-19 star Angkrish Raghuvanshi made his IPL batting debut and hit a half-century at the strike rate of 200. Andre Russel, captain Shreyas Iyer, and Rinku Singh contributed to taking KKR to a mammoth score of 272, the second-highest in IPL history.

Not only that, but due to a slow over rate, DC had to bowl their last two overs with five players inside the 30-yard circle.
While captain Rishabh Pant and South African batter Tristan Stubbs made an effort to come within touching distance of the massive target, the team faltered and was bowled out for 166, a 106-run loss.

Unsurprisingly, Ricky Ponting was not thrilled with the team’s performance, especially in the first half of the match. In a blunt statement, the two-time World Cup-winning captain tore down DC’s performance against KKR during the post-match conference.
“We played bad cricket in the first innings, as we conceded runs and 17 wides. It isn’t very comfortable. Even worse was that we took two hours to bowl our overs, leaving us two overs behind schedule again. This forced the bowlers in the last two overs to have four fielders outside the circle, an unfavourable scenario. It is difficult to assess the team’s overall performance at the moment,” said Ponting.
Following that loss, Delhi Capitals are ninth on the table with just one win in four matches. They also have a dismal net run rate of -1.347.
If they are to have aspirations of making it to the playoffs, DC’s next match will be crucial as they will take on bottom-of-the-table Mumbai Indians on April 7 in Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium.
