Ric Flair Wants Charlotte to Break His Record: Two-time WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair reveals which current WWE superstar he wants to break his record of 16 World Championships before John Cena.
Flair is considered by many as the greatest professional wrestler of all time. From having an over four-decade-long active career at the highest level to wrestling in some of the greatest matches of all time, calling Flair a legend might be an understatement.
But the biggest feather in the 76-year-old’s cap is his 16 World Championships. Across his decades-long career in the NWA, WCW, WWE, and beyond, Flair has won 16 world titles at the top level across promotions; at least that is how many the WWE recognises. The actual number might be as high as 22.
But Ric’s record of 16 titles is what is widely recognised. And for over 20 years, the topic of who will dethrone him from the top of this record has been a major point of discussion. And while many have come close with 10+ title reigns, very few have realistically come close to 16.

One of those names is John Cena, who has also won 16 World Championships in the WWE and is tied for the record. With Cena currently embarking on his retirement tour, which will end at the end of 2025, it is a widely held belief that the Leader of the Cenation will break Flair’s record and win a record 17th world title this year.
In a recent interview on the Busted Open Podcast, Flair discussed the superstars who are in contention for breaking that record, claiming that he would like three people to break his record, these being John Cena, former Evolution cohort Randy Orton, and Ric’s own daughter Charlotte Flair.
“I’d like it to be one of three people, Randy [Orton], Charlotte [Flair], or John [Cena],” he said.

But when asked to name only one of these superstars who he would like to win more than 16 World Championships, Ric Flair unsurprisingly named Charlotte, also revealing the discussion he had with her about getting better despite being a veteran, saying,
“Oh, my first pick would be Charlotte… I told her, ‘You’re not going to have a friend left.’ Because she just keeps getting better. She’s never ever just satisfied with her performance. She’ll pick it apart, and I’ll tell you what else she’s got. She really has her feet on the ground now when it comes to knowing her character and going out there, and when she starts talking, man, you listen. It’s so natural. I know that they write some stuff for her, and she writes some stuff. And they get together. But she is so confident. Sometimes it takes a while to get that, but she just rolls now.”
Finally, when talking about Cena, Flair talked about how he admires John for being polite and nice and how the 47-year-old is “special.”
“I have so much time for John Cena. He truly is one of the really great people in our business. And polite and nice, you know. I mean, at least to me. I’d have to be missing something to say that he’s not special. To me, John is very special,” he said.
Cena will be competing in his last-ever Elimination Chamber match at the namesake Premium Live Event later this week alongside a star-studded cast for a chance to face Cody Rhodes for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 41.
