Reserve day rules for T20 World Cup Final: India and South Africa will contest in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 final on Saturday at the Kensington Oval, Bridgetown, Barbados. These are the two undefeated teams in the tournament; the streak of one team will end in todays match and another will lift the trophy.
South Africa defeated Afghanistan in the first semi-final before India thumped England in the second semi-final.
Both teams and their fans are desperate to win the T20 World Cup 2024 trophy, having come within touching distance of it in this tournament.
South Africa have never won an ICC World Cup trophy in any format, while India have been enduring a decade-long drought of an ICC trophy in the past decade, with their last ICC trophy coming in 2013. India have two World Cup finals in this period – the 2014 T20 World Cup final against Sri Lanka and the World Cup 2023 final at home against Australia.
However, another major talking point among everyone is the rain threat in Barbados and what is the game is washed out?
Firstly, talking about the weather report, according to AccuWeather, there are some showers expected on Saturday morning in Barbados. There is a roughly 50% chance of precipitation from 4 AM to 9 AM, but it decreases to 30% from 10 AM (the scheduled toss time) to 1 PM, after which it increases back to 50%. So, the final on Saturday is likely to be affected by rain, and there could be interruptions of a delayed start.
Reserve day rules for T20 World Cup Final between India and South Africa:
Yes, Sunday, June 30, is the reserve day for the final. But the officials will try their best to conclude the final on Saturday, June 29, itself. For that, the ICC playing conditions allow an additional 190 minutes on Saturday. Both sides need to bat at least 10 overs (unless bowled out in fewer overs) for the final to have a result.
If the match gets started on Saturday and cannot be completed, then it will resume on Sunday. It won’t start from scratch on the reserve day. There is a 20% chance of rain on Sunday, too, during the match hours.
So, what happens if the final cannot be completed even on Sunday?
If the match ends in a no-result, even after the reserve day, then both India and South Africa will be declared joint-winners.
In 2001, India and Sri Lanka were declared joint-winners of the Champions Trophy when the final could not be completed on the match day and the reserve day as well.
