Lizaad Williams Is the Replacement of Harry Brook: South African pacer Lizaad Williams will take part in the IPL for the first time in his career as the Delhi Capitals have roped him in as the replacement for Harry Brook.
Brook, the 25-year-old England’s batting sensation, had pulled out of the IPL 2024 following the death of his grandmother last month. He had earlier withdrawn from the entire 5-Test series against India in India to be with his ailing grandmother, who then passed away.
Lizaad Williams is a 30-year-old speedster from Vredenburg, Cape Town. He had gone unsold in the IPL 2024 auction in December. He joined the Delhi Capitals at a base price of INR 50 lakhs.
Williams has a good record and experience in T20 cricket. In 83 T20 matches, the right-arm speedster has snapped 106 wickets at an average of 19 and maintained an impressive economy of 7.79. He has three four-wicket hauls in the shortest format.
Lizaad has featured in 11 T20Is for South Africa in the last three years, picking up 16 wickets at an average of 23 with a best of 3/35. Williams also has 4 ODIs and 2 Test appearances for the Proteas. He was part of South Africa’s World Cup 2023 squad and played in one match, against Bangladesh.
He will add to Delhi’s pace attack, which includes Ishant Sharma, Anrich Nortje, Jhye Richardson, Mukesh Kumar, and Khaleel Ahmed. Delhi earlier had Lungi Ngidi in their squad, but he pulled out of the tournament due to a lower-back injury that he had sustained during the SA20 earlier this year.
Who Is Lizaad Williams, the Replacement of Harry Brook at Delhi Capitals?
Lizaad Williams was impressive during the SA20 this year. Bowling for the Joburg Super Kings, the pacer took 15 wickets, thus finishing as the fourth-highest wicket-taker of the season.
With Ngidi ruled out and Mitchell Marsh suffering a hamstring injury that will force the Australian to miss at least one week of action, Williams’ arrival is positive news for the Capitals. Rishabh Pant’s team is lying at the bottom of the points table with only one win in five games.
