Reinaldo Merlo chooses Pele over Messi: Argentine legend Reinaldo ‘Mostaza’ Merlo has come up with a sensational revelation, at least for Argentines. The 73-year-old picked Brazil’s ‘King’ Pele over two of his countrymen, Diego Maradona and Lionel Messi, to be the greatest footballer ever to live in the history of the sport.
Reinaldo Merlo was called Mostaza (mustard) during his time because of the off-blonde hair he had. The defensive midfielder was a part of Argentine club River Plate in his entire career. He was a part of their legendary team, which went on to win many competitions between 1975 and 1981.

‘Messi won’t dribble past me’: Reinaldo Merlo chooses Pele over Messi
Reinaldo Merlo risked all the heat he was going to get from the Argentina fans when he picked up someone from their rival country to be the GOAT of the football. In fact, it seems like he doesn’t care about anything but telling what he believes. He admitted that Messi wouldn’t dribble past him if La Pulga had a chance to play against him. He also picked Pele to be the best of his Argentine compatriots.
“Maradona and Messi, two phenomena, but Pelé is from another planet [when asked to name the best player of all time]. The only one that could happen to me? Pele.” [translated from Spanish]

Pele has scored over 1000 goals in his career and won three world cups (1958, 1962, and 1970) to be the only one to do it in history.
