10 Records broken in SRH vs MI: It was utter carnage in the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Wednesday night as the home team, Sunrisers Hyderabad, racked up the highest-ever innings total in the IPL, 277 runs. And that was followed by a close effort from the Mumbai Indians, who piled up 246 in reply.
It rained sixes, and the bowlers took a severe beating, except for Jasprit Bumrah and Pat Cummins, the two best pacers of the generation, who were the only bowlers who conceded at less than 10 runs an over.
Making his debut for SRH, Travis Head, Australia’s hero of the World Cup knockouts, blasted an 18-ball half-century, making the record for the fastest fifty by an SRH batter in the IPL. However, that record lasted for only four more overs as Abhishek Sharma reached the milestone in only 16 balls.
Then came the death-over carnage as Heinrich Klaasen smoked 80* (34) and Aiden Markram hit 42* (28) as the pair took SRH to 277.
Mumbai produced their own montage of powerful hits, starting with Ishan Kishan and Rohit Sharma’s partnership of 56 (20). Youngsters Naman Dhir and Tilak Varma clobbered 84 (37) together. However, the slowdown in the partnership between Hardik Pandya and Varma, in which the pair scored 32 runs in 22 balls, loosened MI’s grip on the required run rate, and SRH pounced on it. Even Tim David’s 42 (22) couldn’t bring MI close to SRH’s total.
During the entire evening of carnage, a spate of records were broken and created. Check out some of the big ones here.
