Real Madrid On Ronaldo Reaching 900 Career Goals: Cristiano Ronaldo created history when he scored his 900th career goal this week. The Portuguese legend has added yet another chapter to the history books when he scored a goal against Croatia in a UEFA Nations League game.
Excluding friendlies, Ronaldo has scored 900 goals for club and country, which is by far the most for any footballer in the history of this game. The five-time Ballon d’Or winner reached the milestone while representing his national team against Croatia on Thursday.
The match saw Diego Dalot open scoring for Portugal in the seventh minute. Dalot then scored again, but this time for the opposition in the form of an own goal in the 41st minute. Between these two goals, in the 34th minute, CR7 scored as well. Nuno Mendes brought the ball out to the flank and passed the ball into the box to Ronaldo, who tapped the ball in from a tricky angle.

Having scored his 900th career goal, the 39-year-old got emotional. After his usual celebration, Cristiano broke down into tears on the floor. It is not every day that an athlete reaches a milestone no one has reached before.
Not only is the legendary footballer the highest goalscorer in the history of the sport, but he is also the highest goal scorer in the history of international football. This was his 131st goal for Portugal. He is one of only three players to have scored over 100 goals for their nation, with Lionel Messi in second place having scored 109 goals for Argentina.
Real Madrid On Ronaldo Reaching 900 Career Goals
Out of his 900 goals, Ronaldo has scored exactly half of those, 450 to be exact, for Real Madrid. After winning his first Ballon d’Or with Manchester United, CR7 signed for Los Blancos in 2009. Over the next nine seasons, he played 439 games and scored more than one goal per match, becoming the highest goal scorer in club history despite not being in the top 10 for appearances.
Having spent most of his time at the top in Real Madrid, the Spanish giants had to react to Cristiano Ronaldo reaching the uncharted milestone of 900 goals. So after his goal against Croatia, the defending La Liga champions tweeted this out:
“Another historic feat: 900 goals in the professional career of one of the biggest legends in the history of Real Madrid and world football. Congratulations, dear and admired @Cristiano! Real Madrid and the club’s fans are always proud of you.”
Even at the age of 39, Ronaldo is showing no signs of slowing down, in terms of goal-scoring, that is. Playing his club football for Al-Nassr in the Saudi Pro League, the Portuguese icon has been the club’s and the league’s highest goal scorer since signing with them in early 2023. In his only full season with the club so far, he scored 44 goals in 45 matches.
Suffice it to say, his move to Saudi Arabia provided a massive boost to his goal count. And if he stays healthy and plays a couple more seasons in the league, we might even talk about Ronaldo reaching 1000 goals in the future.
