RCB Wins The WPL 2024 Final: Royal Challengers Bangalore-W defeated Delhi Capitals-W in the final of the 2024 Women’s Premier League to lift the first title in franchise history.
Delhi Capitals had made it to their second WPL final in a row when they finished first in the league table. On the other hand, RCB made it to the playoffs for the first time in league history and defeated defending champion Mumbai Indians in the Eliminator to secure their place in the final.

The final being played in Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium, the Capitals won the toss at their home ground and chose to bat first. DC was off to the races as opener Shafali Verma went on the offensive.
SHafali, along with captain Meg Lanning built up 64 64-run partnership in seven overs when the winds to the contest changed.

The 8th over, bowled by Sophie Molineux, saw Delhi lose three wickets. First, it was Verma, then Jemimah Rodriguez and Alice Capsey went out for a duck.
From this point, the Capitals’ innings collapsed as the team lost wickets constantly. From 64/0, Delhi fell ]down to 87/7. A late push by the tail saw the team cross the 100-run mark, but they too could only take the final score to 113, with Delhi Capitals being all-out with nine balls to spare.
The Bangalore-based franchise had a much more measured start, with captain Smriti Mandhana and Sophie Devine playing cautiously with the target in mind.
When Devine lost her wicket, the team score was 49/1. At this point, Ellyse Perry walked in. Perry, who was RCB’s hero in the Eliminator with the ball, now had to do it with the bat.
When Mandhana lost her wicket at 82 in the 15th over, it seemed that the game might get a little close. But Perry and Richa Ghosh took the team home in the final over, thus making Royal Challengers Bangalore the champions.
Ellyse Perry won the tournament’s Orange Cap for scoring 347 runs in 10 matches. RCB’s Shreyanka Patil received the Purple Cap for taking 13 wickets throughout the competition.
This is the first trophy in franchise history, the RCB’s male counterparts are yet to win the Indian Premier League. They will start their 17th attempt on March 22, when they take on Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2024’s kickoff match.
