RCB vs KKR Match Highlights And Report-IPL: After 9 matches in the IPL 2024, we have an away team winning a game: Shreyas Iyer’s KKR defeated—utterly demolished—RCB at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on Friday evening. This meant KKR continued their winning streak and extended it to six matches at the Chinnaswamy.
It was made possible by a stunning assault from opener Sunil Narine, who was playing in his 500th T20 match, and Phil Salt, followed by an attacking half-century from Venkatesh Iyer. KKR chased down the target of 183 in 16.5 overs, thus boosting their net run rate. This also meant that Virat Kohli’s half-century, his second in a row, went in vain.

KKR skipper Shreyas Iyer won the toss and elected to bowl first. The pitch played according to what Iyer had hoped for. Initially, it was two-paced, as Faf du Plessis also said after the game, with some balls staying low and bowlers quickly adapting to cutters and slower balls. However, in the second innings, it got better, but nothing to take away from the KKR hitters, who were aided by the RCB bowlers who continued to bowl pace-on deliveries and kept getting smacked.
Virat Kohli charged Mitchell Starc and Varun Chakravarthy for a couple of attractive sixes. Kohli was off to a good start. However, once he slowed down in the second part of the innings, the 35-year-old couldn’t get proper timing and struggled heavily. Kohli was 62 (43) at the end of the 15th over but could then score only 21 runs in 16 balls.
At the other end, Faf was dismissed cheaply. Cameron Green scored 33 (21). Glenn Maxwell got two reprieves but eventually got out for 28 (19). Anuj Rawat and Rajat Patidar scored three runs each. Dinesh Karthik once again provided a late impetus by smashing three sixes in eight balls. RCB finished at 182.

RCB may have thought they had a chance considering how some of the balls stayed low and came slow off the surface in their innings. However, neither the surface retained its slowness, nor their own bowlers used variations. They all duly got clobbered.
Salt started the show with two sixes and a four in the first over to Siraj, and Narine joined in with a couple of maximums against Joseph. Narine tore into Dayal in a 21-run over, before spinner Mayank Dagar yorked him. Till then, Narine had more than done his job with 47 (22), and his partnership of 86 (39) with Salt had effectively sealed the game for KKR.
RCB did manage to fight with wickets of Narine and Salt in the 7th and 8th overs, but Venkatesh Iyer and Shreyas Iyer kept the momentum going and didn’t allow RCB to make much of their small window.
Venkatesh blazed to a brilliant half-century, scoring 50 runs in 30 balls with the help of four sixes and 3 boundaries. Iyer would be pleased to get runs under his belt—39 runs in 24 balls—and the KKR skipper was there in the end when his team completed the run-chase with 19 balls to spare.
Score summary: Royal Challengers Bengaluru 182/6 in 20 overs (Virat Kohli 83, Andre Russell 2/29); Kolkata Knight Riders 186/3 in 16.5 overs (Venkatesh Iyer 50, Vijaykumar Vyshak 1/23). KKR defeated RCB by 7 wickets.
