Ravichandran Ashwin Was Injured At Start Of IPL: Rajasthan Royals and India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has revealed that he was injured and in a lot of pain for the first half of IPL 2024.
Ashwin has been a massive piece of RR’s success over the past two seasons. Bought by the franchise in the 2022 mega-auction, the off-spinner has been more than handy with both bat and ball.
In the first half of the 2024 season, however, Ashwin did not look his best. Coming off a splendid five-match Test series against England, the 37-year-old took just a single wicket in the first seven matches of the season. His shortcomings did not come into the limelight, as the team was winning a lot back then.
RR took on RCB in the Eliminator game of IPL 2024. The Royals won the toss and chose to bowl first. A solid bowling display by Ashwin, Trent Boult, and Avesh Khan restricted RCB to 172.

Then, the Jaipur-based franchise chased the target down with relative ease, despite losing wickets at crucial points during the innings.
The second half of the season has been much better for Ashwin. Having taken eight wickets in the last seven matches, the witty bowler bowled an excellent four-over spell of 2/19 in the Eliminator against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
His two wickets at a crucial juncture of the match played a big role in RR winning the contest. Ravichandran Ashwin’s contributions were recognized as he was named the Player of The Match.

While accepting his PoTM award following the match, Ashwin revealed that he was injured for the first half of the season and could not move well back then.
“In the first half, I felt my body wasn’t moving too well for the first half of the season. I had an abdomen injury as well. I am aging as well. To come into the tournament from Test cricket was difficult; I needed some time to get that bowling rhythm. But once you have committed to your franchise, you want to go through with the season,” said Ashwin.
Ravi Ashwin not only bowled with a sub-five economy against RCB, but he also took the wickets of the Aussie duo of Cameron Green and Glenn Maxwell.
As for the Rajasthan Royals, they will now face Sunrisers Hyderabad in Qualifier 2 on May 24. The winner of that match will face the Kolkata Knight Riders in the final of IPL 2024.
