Rasikh Salam Breaches IPL Code Of Conduct: Delhi Capitals pacer Rasikh Salam Dar breached the IPL Code of Conduct during DC’s recent win over the Gujarat Titans and was reprimanded for it.
DC took on GT in Match 40 of IPL 2024 in Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium. While batting first, the home side put up a massive total of 224 due to late-inning heroics by Tristan Stubbs and captain Rishabh Pant.
In response, GT had a very topsy-turvy innings. After losing captain Shubman Gill for cheap, Sai Sudharsan and Wriddhiman Saha brought their side back into the game. But then, the Titans lost a few wickets in succession before David Miller brought them back on track today.
In the last two overs, despite Rashid Khan’s slogging, DC won the game by four runs.
With 37 runs required in the last two overs, Rasikh Salam was brought in to bowl the 19th over. The inexperienced 24-year-old first bowled a wide, off which Sai Kishore took a run. Then Rashid Kahn hit him for a four before taking a single on the second ball. Sai Kishore then played a dot before hitting two consecutive sixes.
Rasikh Salam Breaches IPl Code Of Conduct
On the final ball of the over, with 19 required in seven, Salam sent the bails flying as he bowled Kishore. Naturally pumped following the dismissal, Rasikh screamed loudly as he celebrated before mouthing a few expletives at the batter he just dismissed.
This action was in violation of Article 2.5 of IPL’s Code of Conduct. The following is Article 2.5 of the Code, which states:
“Article 2.5 includes any language, action or gesture used by a Player and directed towards a batter upon his/her dismissal which has the potential to provoke an aggressive reaction from the dismissed batter, whether or not any reaction results, or which could be considered to disparage or demean the dismissed batter, regardless of whether the batter him/herself feels disparaged or demeaned.”
Rasikh Salam was found in violation of this article and was reprimanded for it. A statement released by BCCI following the match read:
“Dar committed a Level 1 offence under Article 2.5 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct. He admitted to the offence and accepted the Match Referee’s sanction. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s decision is final and binding.”
This will not deter Delhi Capitals from celebrating what was their fourth win of the season. With this, they are sixth on the table with eight points in nine matches. The Capitals will face the Mumbai Indians in their next match on April 27 in Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium.
