Rajat Patidar To Be Replacement For Virat Kohli: Rajat Patidar, who plays for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL, has been named as the replacement for Virat Kohli, who will be missing the first two Tests in the upcoming five-match series against England.
Virat pulled out of the squad for the first couple of matches of the Pataudi Trophy due to personal reasons. He will likely be back with the squad from the third match onwards.
India will face England in the first Test of the five-match series from January 25-29 in the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad.

Patidar was out for about 8 months in 2023 due to injury, which also resulted in him missing the IPL season. Since making his return, he has been in some form on the domestic circuit playing for Madhya Pradesh. He impressed selectors to such a point that he was handed his India cap in an ODI against South Africa.
More recently, the 30-year-old was part of the India A team that took on the England Lions in two unofficial Tests. He was India’s best performer in the two-match series, scoring a century in both matches and taking both matches to a draw.
It might be his recent performances that have seen him getting picked in the squad over the likes of Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane, experienced names in the world of Test cricket. This might also be an indication that the national side is looking towards the future.
Other names that were snubbed as replacements were Sarfaraz Khan and Sai Sudharsan. Sarfaraz might be the most consistent performer on the domestic circuit for the past three years. But for one reason or another, he has not been selected for the national side. However, he has seen a slight dip in form recently.
Sai Sudharsan, on the other hand, has already debuted for India. A versatile batter in terms of positions he can play, Sudharsan too scored a solid 97 against the England Lions.
