Indian national cricket team head coach Rahul Dravid says that he is expecting big things from star-batter Virat Kohli in the final of the 2024 T20 World Cup against South Africa.
The Men in Blue’s journey to the final of this tournament has been an interesting yet dominant one. The team kicked off their tournament with a solid win over Ireland, which was followed by a close and clutch win over arch-rival Pakistan. A win against the United States and a washed-out match against Canada were enough for India to top Group A.
In the Super 8 Group 1, India defeated Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Australia with relative ease. Then, in the semi-finals, India turned the script from the 2022 World Cup semi-final and thrashed England by 68 runs to make their way into the final.
There have been a lot of positives for India in this competition. Captain Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav are firing with the bat; Jasprit Bumrah is proving himself as the best bowler in the world; the spin-trio of Kuldeep Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja, and Axar Patel have been cooking in recent matches; and Hardik Pandya has been a vital piece of the puzzle as an all-rounder.

But one player who hasn’t shown how good he is in this competition is Virat Kohli, which is odd because Kohli might be the greatest World Cup player in history.
So far, Virat has just scored 75 runs in seven innings in this tournament. He has had averages higher than this in multiple World Cups. While he has lost his wicket with the intent of attacking on most occasions, Kohli’s form has been a point of worry for India.
There is a lot of speculation surrounding Virat Kohli and his form in this World Cup, mostly around how he might not be suited to open the inning for India. But the team is showing faith not only in him but in his ability to open an inning.
Rahul Dravid Expects Virat Kohli To Score Big Soon
Ahead of the big final against South Africa, Rahul Dravid was questioned about Virat Kohli, his form, and the intent he has shown in this tournament. To all this, the head coach had this to say:
“I love the intent; I love the way he went about doing it. It sets a good example for the group as well if he’s willing to do it. And you know, for some reason, I don’t want to jinx it, but I think there’s a big one coming up. I’m just loving his attitude and that he’s committing himself on the field; I think he deserves it.”
India will take on South Africa in the final of the 2024 T20 World Cup on Saturday, June 29, at 8:00 p.m. (IST) at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados.
